Biography
Tina Landon is an American choreographer and dancer who helped define the visual language of late twentieth-century pop music. Born in Lancaster, California, in a Mexican-American family, she trained in jazz, ballet, and tap from a young age and entered professional entertainment through the Los Angeles commercial-dance world, including work as a Laker Girl.
Landon's career became closely connected to Janet Jackson. She danced on the Rhythm Nation 1814 tour in 1990, then moved into choreographic leadership for the janet. and The Velvet Rope world tours. Her choreography for those projects—sensual, forceful, and ensemble-driven—helped establish an aesthetic that dominated 1990s pop. In 1995, she won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Choreography for Michael and Janet Jackson's "Scream." Work with other major recording artists, including Ricky Martin's "Livin' la Vida Loca," brought further industry recognition and an Emmy nomination for The Velvet Rope.
Beyond music videos and tours, Landon has taught master classes and produced instructional material, sharing the mechanics behind commercial choreography with the next generation. In 2009 she performed in Janet Jackson's MTV tribute to Michael Jackson, revisiting movement from "Scream."
