About the author

Agnes de Mille (1905–1995) was an American dancer and choreographer who revolutionised dance in musical theatre. Trained in both classical ballet and modern dance, she brought concert dance sensibilities to Broadway at a moment when the two worlds were largely separate. Her work on Oklahoma! established her reputation as a major theatrical artist, and she continued to create influential choreography and write extensively about dance throughout her career.
