About the author

D. E. Pohren was an American who relocated to Andalusia and became deeply embedded in the flamenco world, eventually operating his own flamenco finca. His insider position—living within the tradition rather than documenting it from outside—shaped his approach to writing about the form. He developed personal relationships with significant artists of the period and witnessed juerga practice firsthand over an extended period.
