About this studio
Ams2dance teaches West Coast Swing, a modern partner dance rooted in Lindy Hop, known for smooth movements, playful improvisation, and musicality. The school is run by founder and director Kristina Uldina, who is dedicated to nurturing a vibrant West Coast Swing community in Amsterdam.
Classes run at two venues. On Tuesdays, classes meet at CanDance Studios (Isolatorweg 28). On Thursdays, the school uses VROG Urban Movement (Mr. Visserplein 7, city centre). The teaching team includes Anna (Level 3 teacher, WSDC Advanced level dancer with over 10 years of teaching experience), Slava (Level 3 teacher, WSDC Advanced level dancer with strong focus on musicality and connection), Mateusz (Level 2 teacher, known for passion for technique), Anastasia (Level 1/2 teacher, WSDC Intermediate level with strong teaching background), Alicja (Level 1 teacher), and Murphy (Level 1 teacher, specializing in the beginner's course).
The school offers a structured pathway: an 8-week Beginners' course covering foundational rhythms, patterns, and connection techniques (no partner or prior experience needed); Level 1 Foundation classes for those who have completed the beginner's course; Followers' styling with Anna (held Tuesdays at 19:00), focusing on technique, body control, turns, arm styling, and choreography combinations; Level 3 Advanced classes for dancers with at least one year of West Coast Swing experience; and private lessons available from all teachers. Every class is followed by open practice. Taster classes are available for Level 2 dancers and occasionally for Level 1 beginners. The school also hosts weekend open practice and social dancing at various locations, and runs a major weekend event called Dam! Good Swing with workshops across multiple levels and social dances.
You can drop in to socials and practices without advance registration, though the school recommends signing up early. For classes, registration is required in advance. Partners rotate during classes to make learning more fun and inclusive; you don't need to bring one. If you miss a class, you'll have access to an after-class video recap and can arrange a free extra social or practice session to catch up.
