About this studio
Pasito Dance School teaches salsa and bachata in Amsterdam under the direction of Raquel and Oscar, a Spanish couple with over 15 years of teaching experience combined. Both are professional dancers who trained at IDLS, one of the biggest Latin dance schools in Galicia, where they developed and refined their methodology over years of practice and teaching.
Raquel has been teaching salsa and bachata for more than 10 years, with particular focus on modern bachata and on2 salsa. She was formerly second in charge at IDLS in Spain and was part of the on2 salsa group Euphoria dance company semi-pro and pro team. Oscar has been teaching for more than 5 years and is deeply trained in sensual bachata, using techniques and understanding from Korke and Judith (K&J), the bachata sensual creators and their ambassadors. He holds Level 1 and 2 certificates from K&J teacher courses, as well as the pro course from Luis & Andrea, and has trained extensively with Bachata Sensual ambassadors.
The school offers a structured methodology developed over time, teaching movements in a specific order by difficulty and importance. Classes are divided by level to ensure appropriate progression. The teaching approach emphasises technique, muscle memory over choreography, and real leading and following rather than copying patterns. Teachers dance with all students during class to provide personal feedback. A key principle is teaching variations built from basic techniques so dancers can create their own moves rather than repeating set choreography.
Class offerings include partnerwork classes in salsa and bachata, solo classes, lady style (focused on technique, femininity, style and self-confidence), private one-on-one sessions, and multiple show teams at different levels. The show teams include a bachata partner team (Pasito Team), bachata lady style teams (Bachateritas, with two groups), and a professional bachata partner team for serious competitive dancers. Workshops like the Claudio Musicality and Creativity bootcamp are also advertised. Wedding dance classes are available. The school emphasises building community and creating a family atmosphere where students feel at home, with the belief that anyone can learn to dance with the right guidance.
