About this studio

Arthur Murray Dance Studio of Toronto - North York is part of a legacy stretching back over a century. The founder, Arthur Murray, believed that everyone can learn to dance, and that philosophy underpins everything the studio does. What began as mail-order footprints evolved into a family of franchised studios—over 300 locations worldwide—and the North York location continues that tradition of accessible dance teaching through what they call the Arthur Murray Method.

The studio teaches over 30 styles of dance across several categories. In ballroom, you can learn Waltz, Foxtrot, and other smooth and rhythm styles. For Latin dancing, they offer Salsa (LA Style), Bachata, Merengue, and Cha Cha. Swing styles include East Coast Swing, Lindy Hop (named after aviator Charles "Lucky Lindy" Lindbergh), and West Coast Swing, which originated in California in the 1940s and is known for its laid-back swagger. They also teach Argentine Tango, Country Two-Step, and other partner dances.

Lessons are tailored to your situation. Singles don't need a partner—instructors dance with you at practice parties. Couples come for private lessons designed to rekindle romance and create new date-night memories. Wedding couples receive a specialized approach: you can choose full choreography, lead-and-follow improvisation, or a combination of both. The studio offers music editing as part of wedding packages and recommends dances of 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes in length. First lessons are free sample sessions where you'll answer questions about your goals, then learn basics and leave with a plan.

The North York studio is open Monday to Friday from 1pm to 10pm. It sits at 500 Sheppard Ave E, #104, not far from the Bellwoods Brewery and Union Social Eatery, and serves the greater North York area including Ajax, Aurora, Markham, Newmarket, and Vaughan. Clients consistently praise the instructors—including Bri, Andrea, and Tony—as professional, caring, and experienced. One student noted that Tony taught her advanced techniques in International Standard Waltz. The studio prides itself on creating dance plans suited to your budget and schedule.
