About this studio
Ballet Folklorico Xochipilli of OKC is a nonprofit dance school dedicated to preserving and celebrating Mexican cultural heritage through folklórico dance. Founded in 2015 by Valentin Mata, Alexandro Sandoval, and Fabian Lechuga, the studio takes its name from Xochipilli, the Aztec god known as the 'Prince of Flowers'—a symbol of beauty, art, music, dance, and love. Based at the Xochipilli Event Center at 6052 S Western Ave, the organisation operates as a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit, reinvesting contributions into programs, classes and community events.
The studio runs three age-based class groups. Kids Group (ages 3–7) meets Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6:30–7:30 PM and focuses on building confidence, coordination, and cultural pride through movement and imagination. No prior dance experience is needed, though children should be potty trained before joining. Juniors Group (ages 8–12) meets Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:30–7:30 PM and strengthens technique, stage presence, and knowledge of regional styles. Adults Group (ages 13 and up) meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00–9:30 PM and welcomes dancers at all levels, from complete beginners to experienced performers.
Instructor Angelica Quintanilla is named among the esteemed teachers guiding students through dance steps and fostering pride in their heritage. Classes emphasise both technique and cultural expression, moving from basic footwork and movements in the kids' classes to advanced footwork and complex choreography for adults. For those stepping into folklórico for the first time, the studio welcomes you to visit a class free of commitment before deciding whether to join.
The studio offers performance opportunities through its Performing Company, which brings dances from across Mexico to audiences. Adults who perform receive performance wardrobe provided by Xochipilli. The organisation also runs workshops, cultural events, and hosts an annual event called Folkloreada. As a nonprofit, the studio offers scholarships and maintains a mission focused on educating and entertaining the Oklahoma City community while preserving Mexican traditions across generations.
