Broadway Dance Centre is based in Handsworth, Birmingham, on Livingstone Road in Perry Barr. The studio is purpose-built with a maple sprung floor, described on their website as the best in the Midlands. Mirrored walls help you track your progress, and there is a spacious car park available.
They teach ballroom, Latin American, tap, street dance and jive. Adult classes are structured in three levels: beginners (no pressure, learning at your own pace), improvers (building repertoire and skills), and competitive coaching by private lesson. Classes run Monday to Friday from 15:00–22:00 (with Wednesday and Thursday opening at 14:00), Saturday 10:00–18:00, and Sunday 11:00–14:00.
Junior classes include Baby Ballroom (Rainbow Class) for children under 6 on Saturday mornings, followed by Ballroom and Latin American classes from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The Junior Show Dance Team is open to children under 12 and covers beginner to high grade. The studio helps children prepare for dance exams, competitions and events on request, without pressure.
The studio has a track record of student achievement. Past pupils have gained places at B.O.A, the Performing Arts Academy in Birmingham. Former student Kate Emma Portlock played the lead in Dirty Dancing before retraining as a fitness instructor. Lorna Dawson, daughter of the Principal, has performed in musicals across Germany and Austria and is currently based in Vienna in a role as dance captain and assistant choreographer. Broadway DC has provided dancers for TV shows, advertisements, the X-Factor and the Olympics 2012 opening ceremony.
Wedding choreography is offered, and private lessons can be arranged to suit your schedule.
