About this studio
Cecilia Villalobos – DC Salsa Queen teaches salsa, bachata, merengue and cumbia from a studio on the second floor of 18 Roth Street in Alexandria. Cecilia Villalobos is a world-renowned performer and former Miss Peru with over 25 years of experience. She has performed at the White House during multiple administrations, the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Museum, and various embassies. She has collaborated with legends including Marc Anthony, Victor Manuel, El Gran Combo, and Celia Cruz and Tito Puente.
The studio offers group classes in salsa at beginner (Level 1/2) and intermediate levels (Level 3/4), basic bachata, and intermediate salsa on 1 with partnering focus. Styling workshops teach body isolations, arm styling and personal touches. All group classes are 1 hour 25 minutes or 2 hours long.
Private lessons are available for individual dancers and couples, and Cecilia specializes in wedding choreography covering salsa, bachata, rumba, waltz, foxtrot, Argentine tango, cumbia, merengue and ballenato. The studio runs dance team auditions for those interested in joining student performance groups.
Noche Latina is a social dancing event held on the fourth Saturday of each month, designed for you to practise your skills on the dance floor. The studio shares space with Dance Studio Lioudmila at the same address.
Membership options range from monthly group class packages at $175 per month (8 hours) to unlimited group classes at $450 per month. Private lesson packages start at $1,495 for 10 individual classes (valid 3 months) and go up to $2,990 for 20 classes (valid 6 months). Couples private lesson 10-packs are $1,725 (valid 3 months). Drop-in group classes are $25 for beginner salsa and bachata, and $50 for intermediate classes, workshops and private lessons.
What to expect
Your first visit
You'll take class on the second floor at 18 Roth Street. Group classes run 1 hour 25 minutes to 2 hours depending on the level and style. Beginner salsa and bachata drop-ins are $25; intermediate classes and workshops are $50. Private lessons with Cecilia are $160 per hour, or $175 per hour for couples.
