About this studio
Chomari Ballet Folklorico Mexicano is the dance company and teaching programme of El Museo Latino, Omaha's Latino Art & History Museum and Cultural Center. The museum itself opened its doors on May 5, 1993, in the historic Livestock Exchange Building as the first Latino museum in the Midwest. In 1997, it moved to its present brick and red-tile-roof building—originally built as a school in 1887 and reconstructed in the 1930s.
Dance classes are offered year-round for both children and adults. The programme includes folklorico dance, ballroom, salsa, ballet and hip-hop. Classes are taught at the museum's location in south Omaha, integrated into the broader educational mission of the institution.
Beyond regular classes, Chomari performs at the museum's special events throughout the year. These include Family Day celebrations, the annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration in May, and Hispanic Heritage Month events in September. The dance company also hosts special dance performances by visiting artists. Bilingual guided visits are offered for groups of ten or more, and the museum provides a resource for Latino studies across the Midwest.
El Museo Latino develops a full range of educational programmes that include lectures, presentations, films, art classes, workshops, demonstrations, art history classes and gallery talks alongside dance instruction.
