About this studio
Contratiempo is a dance academy in Málaga founded on the philosophy that dance is a journey of personal, creative and artistic transformation. The studio occupies a space at Avenida Europa 11, Carretera de Cádiz, and operates with what they describe as an welcoming, artistic environment marked by community energy and a non-judgmental approach. You're invited to explore your artistic side from curiosity and pleasure, regardless of age or dance level.
The studio teaches a diverse range of styles across adult and children's classes. Contemporary dance forms the core of their offer, including danza contemporánea, improvisación and creación taught by Rosa Aledo. Ballet classes are available at intermediate level and beyond. Pilates terapéutico, led by Rosa Aledo, is designed for anyone with or without existing physical conditions, using breathwork and an integral approach that draws on yoga, Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais methods to re-educate movement patterns. Tango is taught by Laura and Mario as a partner dance emphasizing the embrace, improvisation and spontaneity of the Argentine form. Hip hop classes for ages 8+ are led by Gaby Pardo, focusing on technical and choreographic work grounded in urban cultural expression. Swing (Lindy Hop) classes for adults 18+ are run by Swing Monkeys and cater to beginners with no or minimal experience; partners are assigned if you attend alone. Contact improvisation is offered through monthly workshops and jams led by Rosa Aledo, with visiting international specialists—notably Nita Little, one of the founders of Contact Improvisation, and Dieter Hietkamp have taught at the studio.
Theater improvisation is also available, taught by Rafa Frías. The studio runs summer intensive dance programmes and artistic children's summer camps. They offer group and private classes, rental of the dance space, and host an amateur dance company and creative processes. The studio maintains an active blog and podcast featuring interviews and dance reflections, including a recent retreat series on dance in nature.
According to reviews on Google (5.0 rating, 63 reviews), students consistently report feeling safe, non-judged and part of a supportive community. One participant described pilates terapéutico as having "contributed to a style of life of daily movement" and helped with chronic pain management. Multiple students emphasise the emotional and personal transformation they've experienced through the classes and the welcoming atmosphere.
