About this studio
Dance Annex Studios is a community-focused arts facility with five locations across Toronto, founded in 2012 with a mission to provide affordable studio space for the dance community. The business is run by Junyan Boon and Caney Dança, both experienced dancers and instructors who manage the studios alongside their own teaching practice.
Junyan Boon has been teaching dance since 2004, specializing in salsa, zouk, and tango—all partnered social dances. After retiring from full-time teaching in 2020, Junyan now focuses on developing craft and conducts occasional workshops for zouk enthusiasts globally. Caney Dança trained in Chinese folk dance, jazz, ballet, contemporary, and lyrical from age 3, and has since become devoted to partner dances, particularly Brazilian zouk. As an instructor, she emphasizes helping students fully embrace their learning journey.
Studio 527, located at 527 Bloor St W (2nd floor), is the flagship space—850 sq ft with 300 sq ft of amenities, capacity 45. It features 30 ft of mirrored wall, hardwood floors (not sprung), 9 ft ceilings, lots of natural light, air conditioning and heating, dimmable pot lights, a kitchenette with sink, changing room and storage, 2 powered speakers, 1 mixer, and high-speed wifi. Studio 901 (Elements) at 901 Yonge St W, Unit 203 offers 750 sq ft plus 500 sq ft amenities, capacity 35, with semi-sprung floors, 35 ft of mirrored wall, 10 ft ceilings, central air conditioning, and a sound system. Studio 693 at 693 Bloor St W (lower level) is 700 sq ft plus 400 sq ft amenities, capacity 30, with 20 ft of mirrored wall, HRV air exchange system, wood laminate flooring, and a bar area. Studio 509A at 509 Bloor St W (2nd floor) is 400 sq ft, capacity 12–15, with 9 ft of glass mirrors and 12 ft ceilings. Studio 509B is split into two 175 sq ft rooms, capacity 3–5, also with glass mirrors and 10 ft ceilings. All spaces include air conditioning and heating, pot lights, and high-speed wifi.

Your first visit
You can schedule a visit to explore the studios in person; 3D virtual tours are also available online. Each space is clean, well-lit, and equipped with mirrors and sound systems. You'll find changing rooms and kitchenettes at most locations, and the team is available by phone or email.

Who teaches here
Junyan Boon teaches salsa, zouk, and tango, drawing on a career spanning from 2004, and conducts occasional zouk workshops.
