About this studio

Dance Boulevard is the largest and longest running dance studio in the South Bay Area. Located at 1824 Hillsdale Ave in San Jose, the studio offers group classes across multiple styles including salsa, West Coast Swing, ballroom, bachata, Argentine Tango, and Zumba. With more group class programs, dance parties and private instructors than any other local dance studio, Dance Boulevard serves both beginners and intermediate dancers throughout the week.

The studio runs a robust schedule of group classes at multiple times. Evening classes include Tuesday and Wednesday salsa sessions taught in a progressive style by Dennis and Danielle, starting with basic steps and building to more complex patterns. Tuesday ballroom classes rotate monthly dances and feature instruction from David Canavese and Dana Johnson, with a practice party at 9:30 pm. West Coast Swing classes run nightly with beginner and intermediate options, plus a West Coast Swing Party with DJ Richard Kear. Afternoon classes meet Monday through Saturday, ranging from West Coast Swing to International Standard and Latin styles, with fees of $22 per drop-in class.

Dance Boulevard hosts regular social dancing throughout the week: Salsa Rueda on Monday nights, West Coast Swing Party on Monday nights, Hustle Party on Thursday nights, Ballroom Party on Thursday and Friday nights, Argentine Tango Milonga on Friday nights, Hot Salsa Saturday on Saturday nights, Ballroom Tea Dance on Sunday afternoons, and Sunday Evening Ballroom Party. All social events welcome drop-in attendance. The studio offers Cool Card prepaid group class packages in values of $100, $200, and $500 with discounts of 10% to 20% off regular pricing.

The teaching staff includes owners Hans Schmitt and Miles Ogata, alongside Master Instructors Richard Kear, Shanna Porcari, David Canavese, Stacey Fong, and Stephen Ward. Specialty Instructors include Philip Pettinger, Cathy Gregory, and Jacob Zeglen, with traveling coaches also available. The studio has hosted Showcase 2025 for competitive dancers and student performances.

Operating hours are Monday to Thursday 10 am–10 pm, Friday 10 am–4 pm, and Saturday and Sunday 10 am–2 pm. The studio welcomes beginners and can be reached by phone or email.

The afternoon group classes program originated as the 'Almaden Ballroom Dance Club' founded by Jane Lee and Francis Sit, with Jason and Greta Ma, who created the culture of afternoon dancing for active, healthy retired living. After 12 years of volunteer work with hundreds of classes and parties, they joined Dance Boulevard to access professional instruction.
