About this studio

Capitol Dance Company was founded by Leslie Fields in 1978 and has spent over 48 years educating dancers in the art of dance. After Leslie's retirement in 2022, her daughters Allison and Taylor Fields took over as co-owners. Together they bring extensive experience as dancers, teachers, and managers, committed to leading the studio with creativity and teamwork.

The studio offers a wide range of classes across multiple age groups and styles. For the youngest dancers, there's Biggie and Small's class (for adults and 2–3 year olds) and Tiny Dancer (ages 3–4). For ages 4–6, classes include Kids Ballet/Tap, Kids Jazz/Tap, and Kids Jazz/Hip Hop. From age 7 upward, students can train in Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, and Pointe (ages 12+). There's also Flexibility and Technique (ages 13–18) and Dance Team Prep (ages 11–17). The studio emphasizes strong technique and creative expression, with teachers focused on nurturing each dancer's personal style while fostering a positive classroom environment.

Miss Allison has been teaching, choreographing, and coaching for over 30 years. She trained in Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical, Jazz, and Tap, completed her RAD annual examinations, and competed regionally and nationally. She holds a B.A. in History from SJSU and spent years teaching elementary school before returning to dance full-time. As co-owner, she created and developed CDC's award-winning competition program; under her direction, dancers have won National Titles, scholarships, and countless Studio Achievement Awards. Many of her former students have been accepted into prestigious BFA programs at NYU/Tisch, CalArts, Chapman, Long Beach, UC Irvine, Dominican, Marymount, and LINES, with others dancing professionally across the country.

Miss Taylor has been dancing since early childhood and teaching for over 25 years. She is formally trained in Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, and Tap, and was a member of the award-winning Pioneer Dance Team, where she served as Captain and led her team to a National title. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from SJSU. Taylor joined CDC full-time as Studio Manager in 2013 and has overseen the studio's growth and development in size and infrastructure. She now serves as co-owner alongside Allison.

The studio offers additional performance opportunities including Performance Awards (run by Miss Melissa, who has danced with CDC since 1985 and completed her Royal Academy of Dance examinations), Competition Teams, Master Classes, and an Annual Summer Performance in June. Holiday Dance Week takes place from December 15–20 each year, where dancers perform a short routine during the last 30 minutes of class for parents and peers, demonstrating what they've learned. The studio also houses The Company, a pre-professional program for advanced dancers.

Additional instructors include Miss Chelsea (Performance Director of Summer Performances, trained in Jazz, Lyrical, Tap, Hip Hop, Salsa, and Afro Cuban techniques, and creator of CDC's Contemporary program); Cassy Sarti (who oversees the Tap program, majored in Dance at San Jose State University, and choreographs for competition teams); Kaela Norwood (with over a decade of teaching experience and a background performing with modern and contemporary companies); Randi Lee Isaacs (trained at Joffrey Jazz and Contemporary, with choreographic works performed at Joffrey Ballet School); Sarah Stevens (ABT certified up to level 5, trained in classical ballet, Gyrotonic, and Pilates); Marina Bargas (trained at West Valley Community College and San Jose State University); and Xavier Comeaux (with over 15 years of experience in Hip Hop styles and notably performed with Kendrick Lamar at Super Bowl LIX in 2025, served as Dance Team Captain for the Golden State Warriors from 2022–2024).
