Dance Ireland is the representative body for the professional dance community across the island of Ireland. Established in 1989 as the Association of Professional Dancers in Ireland, the organisation has grown into a vibrant network connecting dance professionals from a wide range of genres and experiences.
Based at DanceHouse on Foley Street in Dublin's city centre, Dance Ireland operates as a member-informed dance development organisation. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible. The organisation offers professional development opportunities, artist support resources, and advocacy work to sustain and grow dance as a practice and profession.
Members gain access to world-class facilities including the Artist Resource Room, library and archive. Pre-professional and professional members can apply for use of the Members' Studio, which offers flexible, complimentary short-term studio support for artistic research and maintaining a dance practice. Members receive subsidised rates on classes, workshops and training programmes, and can access reduced-rate equipment hire.
Dance Ireland runs residency programmes for professional dance artists, public engagement youth dance partnerships, and community classes. The organisation also administers awards and support schemes including HATCH: Reflect and Reimagine, the National Dance Residency Partnership (NDRP), and Eadrainn / Between Us. The organisation provides advice and support sessions to members on artistic planning, project planning, funding and grant applications, communications and marketing, and professional development.
Membership is open to dance professionals, vocational dance students, and individuals or organisations working in or with dance. The organisation advocates on behalf of the dance community and offers support and advice to members, the general public and the wider dance sector.
