About this studio
Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Cary teaches ballroom and partner dances from a studio on Kildaire Farm Road, just off Cary Parkway. The studio is part of a nationwide franchise founded in 1947 with a mission to enrich lives through dance—physically, mentally, emotionally and socially.
The Cary location offers instruction across a wide range of partnership dances. The studio teaches American and International ballroom styles, including waltz, tango, foxtrot, quickstep, viennese waltz, rumba, cha-cha, mambo, jive, salsa, merengue, paso doble, samba, bolero, Argentine tango, east coast swing, hustle and west coast swing. Lessons are tailored to your goals: social dancing, wedding preparation, competitive dancing or simply picking up a new hobby.
The teaching method combines private lessons, group classes and practice sessions. Private instruction is one-on-one (or couples) work with a certified instructor tailored to your pace and goals. Group classes are offered throughout the week at various times and levels. Practice sessions happen in a party-like atmosphere with dimmed lights and music, letting you apply what you've learned without social pressure. The studio emphasises learning as much as possible in the shortest time, with the highest retention, in a fun setting.
Instructors are certified in the Fred Astaire curriculum, a teaching method developed by Fred Astaire himself. Many have Fine Arts degrees and are actively competing, award-winning professional dancers who hail from all over the world. Singles are welcome—if you come alone, your instructor becomes your partner for private lessons, and group classes and practice sessions provide chances to meet other students.
The studio offers wedding dance programmes, from a simple first dance to choreographed routines for the entire wedding party. Wedding instruction can include parents' dances (father-daughter, mother-son). The studio recommends booking at least 5-6 months ahead, though shorter timelines are accommodated. An online studio dance store sells dance-related items. The studio also offers access to regional, inter-regional, national and international Fred Astaire amateur and pro-am competitions.
