About this studio
Dance With Ceech is a hip-hop dance instruction studio run by Ceech, an electrical engineer from UC Berkeley who pivoted to dance after a chance encounter with the LA Boys in Taiwan. What began as a personal journey — learning from Gary Kendell, Pop'in Pete and Skeeter Rabbit of the legendary Electric Boogaloos, and competing with crews including CaliStyles and Mindtricks — became a 25-year teaching career spanning eight Bay Area colleges, corporate campuses like Google and LinkedIn, and thousands of students.
Ceech's teaching philosophy is built on breaking dance into logical, repeatable steps. Rather than relying on inspiration or innate talent, he treats movement as a skill — one that analytical minds and complete beginners can master with the right method. His competitive background is substantial: DS Players won 1st place at Body Rock 2007, an international hip-hop championship, and auditioned for America's Got Talent in 2010. Several founding members of his Mindtricks crew went on to form Jabbawockeez, and one CaliStyles member became a principal dancer in Cirque du Soleil's Michael Jackson ONE.
Classes and lessons cover hip-hop, locking, popping, breaking, and funk styles at any level. Private instruction is available in-person at Get Down Dance Studios (196 Jackson St, San Jose) or via Zoom. Ceech breaks moves down into small steps, builds them up to full routines, and provides real-time corrections tailored to where each student actually is. He has taught at Mission College, West Valley College, Cabrillo College, and Gavilan College, among others in the Bay Area.
With 5.0 ratings across 86+ combined reviews on Google and Yelp, students consistently describe him as patient with beginners while pushing advanced dancers higher, creating a welcoming environment where people return week after week. One former student now teaches dance themselves. Another used techniques learned here on a television show. The studio emphasizes that dance is learnable — not a gift.
