About this studio
DanceSport Boston has been teaching ballroom dance since 1994, and has been based in North Weymouth since 2002. The studio is owned and directed by Anne Marie and John Paul, a professional dance couple with over four decades of combined experience. Anne Marie and John have taught ballroom since the early 1980s and competed in American Style Rhythm and Smooth divisions, earning finalist placements before retiring from professional competition in 1992. For over 25 years they led thirteen Ballroom and Latin dance classes at Boston University, where Anne Marie continues as part-time faculty in the Dance Department. Anne Marie is a highly respected figure in ballroom dance: she spent six years in professional competition, over 20 years as a Pro-Am partner and choreographer, and earned the title of top producing executive and teacher in the world for three consecutive years within the Arthur Murray network. She was the Founding Coach of the Boston University Ballroom Dance Club for seven years and has guest-instructed at Harvard Medical School, MIT, Boston College, and Boston Conservatory. Anne Marie also holds a BFA in Fashion Design from Massachusetts College of Art and was awarded the Outstanding Creative Achievement Award for a fashion collection shown at the Museum of Fine Arts.
The studio offers group classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings, alongside private lessons. Students explore American and International Styles of ballroom dance, including Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Swing, Rumba, Cha-Cha, and Salsa. The teaching philosophy centres on building "dancers from the feet up"—focusing on solid fundamentals while keeping learning joyful. Group classes welcome singles, couples, and groups; partners are not required since other solo students will be present, and instructors fill the role of partner in private lessons.
DanceSport Boston runs Dance Party Fridays, described as relaxed, energetic evenings where students practice moves, build confidence, and enjoy the social side of dancing. The studio also hosts seasonal social dance events with themes. Wedding couples receive personalised instruction designed around their song, style, and comfort level, with the studio offering wedding packages and custom options. The studio has won South Shore's Best Ballroom Dance studio three years in a row, and was a three-time Best of the South Shore (BOSS) winner for Best Dance Lessons in the Weddings category. Students also have the option to perform in Showcase and Spotlight events.

Studio history
DanceSport Boston was founded in 1994 by Anne Marie and John Paul, who began by offering expert dance instruction and ballroom music CDs to dancers and professionals across the country. In 2002 they found a permanent home in North Weymouth and expanded their offerings to include ballroom dance shoes. They also launched the Saturday Evening Ballroom Dance series in Hanover (later paused during the COVID crisis), but the spirit of those social events continues in the studio today.
