About this studio

Dansschool Meyer et Fils is an established fixture in Rotterdam's dance community. The school has built a reputation over many years, with the tagline 'Van dansen bij Meyer, wordt iedereen blijer' (Dancing at Meyer makes everyone happier). The school is known locally enough that when people mention dancing in Rotterdam, Meyer et Fils is often the first name that comes up.

The school teaches ballroom dances (Engelse Wals, Tango, Quickstep, Slowfoxtrot and Weense Wals), Latin dances (ChaChaCha, Rumba, Jive, Paso Doble and Samba), and older styles (St.Bernhards Wals, Veleta, Boston Two Step, Argentijnse Tango and Salsa). Classes are structured as 13 weekly lessons, each 75 minutes long. New course terms start in the second half of September and the second half of January. During summer, special summer courses are offered.

Classes cater to all levels through the medal system from Brons to Goud Ster. The school runs social dancing programmes alongside focused training for competitive dancers at all levels. For those training to become professional dance teachers, Meyer et Fils offers preparation for the Professional Dance Teachers exam at Associate level (IDTA level 4 Diploma in teaching dance), Licentiate and Fellowship Qualifications, with both ISTD and IDTA pathways available.

Private lessons are available for special occasions such as wedding opening dances, for technique development, and for competitive dancers preparing for competitions. The school hosts regular dance events and social evenings. Summer 2026 programming includes an Eindbal (free entry) on 6 June, a Zomerbal on 20 June, and a Hawai'i Party on 18 July (advance tickets €8, door €10). A photo night (Afdansen) takes place on 29 May 2026. The school also offers hall rental for other dance events and organisations.

Instructor Ger van der Velden presents himself on the school's website. The school is located on Henegouwerlaan 53-B, 3021 CS Rotterdam and maintains a strong online presence including a Facebook page and photo gallery of events.
