About this studio

Dusty Boot Dancing is a dance academy and social dance club specializing in Modern Country Swing and Line Dance, located at 3030 S Main St in South Salt Lake. The studio offers multiple lessons to teach Modern Country Swing, Line Dancing, West Coast Swing, and Country 2-Step for both social and competitive dancers.

Modern Country Swing is taught across four progression levels. Level 1 (Introductory) runs Thursdays and Saturdays at 8:00pm, teaching the three-step basic and social swing moves; the cost is included with dance social admission. Level 1 classes are also streamed live on TikTok for dancers in other states. Level 2 (Beginner) classes run Mondays at 8:00pm, Fridays at 6:00pm, and Saturdays at 4:00pm, organised into 9-week sessions with three units each focusing on Connection and Timing, Quality of Movement, or Musicality. Level 2 combines movement pattern classes with workshops such as "Posture, Frame & Post" and "Creating Connection". Level 3 (Novice) meets Mondays at 9:00pm, Fridays at 7:00pm, and Saturdays at 5:00pm, with 30+ unique walk-in classes and workshops. Level 4 (Intermediate) is offered Fridays at 8:00pm and Saturdays at 6:00pm in an ongoing format with Master Class Formats, guest instructors, and in-house competitions.

Line Dancing is offered as Solo Line Dancing, described as a choreographed solo dance category with varied genres and styles. West Coast Swing and Progressive Country 2-Step (a partnered dance with "Quick, Quick, Slow, Slow" timing) are also taught. Private lessons are available, and the studio hosts regular dance socials. The Level 1 Introductory class includes both line dance and Modern Country Swing instruction in a combined format. Recent session offerings include guest instructors Arden Yundt and Jess Silver on July 30th.

Students are not required to attend with a partner, but it is encouraged. All Modern Country Swing courses are designed to help both social and competitive dancers develop timing, technique, teamwork, musicality, and showmanship. Progression criteria are clearly outlined for each level, with Level 3 entry requiring a petition test assessed by both a Lead Instructor and Follow Instructor. Petitioning is free during Saturday Dance Socials according to availability.
