About this studio
El Paso Ballroom Dance Academy has been teaching ballroom and Latin dance for more than 25 years. The studio offers instruction in Ballroom, Swing, Waltz, Latin, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Tango, Salsa, Country Western, Foxtrot, Bachata, Argentine Tango, Kizomba, and Cumbia. Classes range from group lessons to private instruction, with offerings for children, teens, and adults at all skill levels from beginner to advanced.
The instructional team includes Joanie Garcia, Cesar Garcia, and Dolores Mendez. The academy emphasises customised lesson plans: your instructor will go over your personal dance goals and develop a plan to help you achieve them. Group lessons run Monday through Friday and last 55 minutes, with class sizes averaging 20 to 40 people. Partner rotation during group classes means you don't need to bring your own partner.
Beyond regular classes, the studio runs dance parties open to the public, featuring all ballroom dances including Swing, Salsa, Cha-Cha, Tango, and Waltz. For children, there are Dance Littles (ages 5–11), Dance Teens (ages 12–18), and a Kids Dance Cotillion programme that combines etiquette with social dance instruction. The academy also offers Music and Dance Education lessons designed to develop children's interests in learning and self-expression.
Specialised programmes include wedding dance packages covering first dances, father-daughter dances, mother-son dances, and choreography for bridal parties. The studio creates rehearsal DVDs and works with couples on dances like Waltz, Foxtrot, or Tango, often choreographing to the couple's chosen song. Quinceañera packages are available. The academy also runs corporate team building events with two hours of instruction in three basic dances followed by one hour of dance practice.
The studio, located on the West Side of El Paso, is available for ballroom rental, photo shoots, rehearsals, video and movie productions, meetings, corporate events, wedding receptions, and private functions. The academy is open Monday–Saturday, with Sunday by appointment.
What to expect
Your first visit
A first visit typically involves either a group lesson or a private lesson where your instructor learns your dance goals and recommends a suitable programme. Group classes work on a rotation basis so you can learn without a partner. You'll start with basic movements—walking forward, backward, and side to side—and be able to dance after your first lesson.
