About this studio
Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Bay Harbor Islands teaches ballroom, Latin, smooth, rhythm and swing dancing to adults of all ages and experience levels. The studio offers private lessons, group lessons, and practice parties using a proven teaching method developed by Fred Astaire himself. Whether you're interested in social dancing, preparing for a wedding first dance, or competitive ballroom dancing, the instructors tailor programmes to your specific goals and budget.
The team includes Dima (Studio Owner and Head Instructor), Allie (Studio Owner and Advanced Department manager), Dan (Professional Dancer and Front Department manager), and instructors Donata, Kamil, and Joy. Several instructors hold fine arts degrees and are actively competing, award-winning professional dancers. One student noted that instructors Dan, Dima, and Allie successfully modified steps for a student with hemiparesis, allowing them to compete and progress. The studio holds a 5.0 rating on Google from 77 reviews.
Wedding dance programmes are a major focus. The studio offers customized first-dance lessons, father/daughter and mother/son dances, and party line dances. One bride reported that lessons with Dan were "definitely one of my favorite parts of planning my wedding," and the couple's first dance was "a highlight of our wedding" with guests taking photos and videos.
Beyond weddings, the studio runs ProAm (Pro-Amateur) lessons where students dance alongside a professional instructor in prestigious competitions and showcases around the country. Studio shows and practice dance parties are held regularly so students can form friendships, stay active, and perform their skills. A new student intro offer includes one 30-minute private lesson with a personalised consultation and studio tour.

What to wear and bring
Before your first class
What to bring
Wear something comfortable that allows you to move easily. Bring comfortable shoes; leather-sole shoes for men and shoes with a back for women (like ballroom dance shoes) are recommended. Athletic shoes do not work well on the ballroom dance floor as they stick. If you have wedding shoes, bring them to your first lesson so the instructor can advise whether you can dance comfortably in them.
