About this studio

Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Brandon teaches ballroom and Latin partnership dances to students of all ages and abilities. The studio's curriculum covers Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz, Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba, Mambo, Jive, Paso Doble, Argentine Tango, Bolero, Merengue, Salsa, East Coast Swing, Hustle, and West Coast Swing. You can study either International or American Ballroom styles, or both.

The teaching approach centres on three components: private lessons tailored to your pace, group classes for technique and fitness, and practice sessions where you dance socially in a party atmosphere. The studio promises you'll be "on your way to confident dancing by the end of your very first lesson." Private lessons are by appointment during business hours; group classes run afternoons and evenings throughout the week; practice sessions are typically scheduled weekly.

The studio accepts singles and couples equally. If you come alone, your instructor becomes your partner for private lessons. Group classes and practice sessions let you meet other students and dance with them in a low-pressure setting. All new students get access to a special introductory offer.

Wedding dance instruction is a core offering. The studio can choreograph anything from a simple first dance to full wedding-party routines set to your song. They recommend starting lessons at least 5–6 months before your wedding. You can include your parents or wedding party in lessons, and the studio suggests bringing your wedding shoes to your first session.

Fred Astaire Dance Studios also runs regional, inter-regional, national and international Pro-Am and professional dance competitions for those with competitive ambitions. The studio operates an online dance store with merchandise and apparel. Students have access to guest parties, showcases, spotlights, community outreach events, coaching sessions and off-site group outings.

What to expect

When you arrive for your first visit, you'll notice a warm, non-judgmental atmosphere described by students as welcoming and joyful. Bring comfortable clothes and shoes that let you move freely; leather-sole shoes are suggested for men, and women should wear a shoe with a back.
