About this studio
Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Cranberry, PA teaches all partnership dances—waltz, tango, cha-cha, salsa, swing, foxtrot, rumba, mambo, quickstep, jive, hustle, samba, paso doble, bolero, Argentine tango, Viennese waltz, merengue, and West Coast swing, among others. Their proven curriculum covers American, Latin, International Style, Ballroom Style, Exhibition and Theater Arts dances for both social and competitive dancers.
The studio is led by world-class instructors. Ivan Sovetov began dancing at age 5 in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and competed at Regional, National and International levels, reaching finals in the Russian Championship (both Latin and 10-dance), the Finland Open Championship (Latin), and the German Open Championship (10-dance). He holds the title Master of Sport of the Russian Federation. Valeria Mkrtchian also started at age 5 in Russia and achieved 2nd place at the Italian Open Championship (10-dance), 3rd place at the German Open Championship (10-dance), and was a finalist at the prestigious Blackpool Dance Festival (Latin), the Austrian Open Championship (Latin), and the Russian Open Championship (Ballroom, Latin, and 10-dance). She also holds Master of Sport of the Russian Federation. Together they are United States National Professional 9-Dance Champions, 5× Fred Astaire National and World 9-Dance and Show Dance Champions, Ohio Star Ball Rising Star Professional American Smooth Champions, finalists at the Emerald Ball in Open Professional American Smooth, and 2× runners-up at the United States National Professional Latin Show Dance Championships.
Programs include private lessons, group classes, practice sessions, and social dance parties. The studio offers wedding dance instruction—from simple first-dance steps to fully choreographed routines for couples, their parents, and entire wedding parties. New students can take advantage of introductory offers: one intro lesson plus one group class for $45, or one intro lesson plus one private lesson for $99. The studio also runs Regional, Inter-Regional, National and International Pro-Am and Professional dance competitions, as well as Guest Parties, Showcases, Spotlights, Community Outreach Events, and off-site Group Outings. Singles are welcome; instructors partner with solo students for private lessons, and group classes and practice sessions offer opportunities to dance with other students.
The studio emphasizes a warm, non-judgmental, welcoming atmosphere. The teaching philosophy is that learning ballroom dance should be fun. Fred Astaire instructors are highly qualified professionals from around the world, many with Fine Arts degrees and active competitive records. All are certified in the Fred Astaire Curriculum, a teaching method developed by Fred Astaire himself. The studio recommends scheduling lessons close together at the start, especially in combination with group classes and practice sessions, for fastest learning and retention.
