About this studio

Havana Salsa was established in the UK over 15 years ago to introduce Cuban Salsa and Cuban culture into many lives. Led by Rodolfo and his wife Laura, alongside a team of trained instructors from across the globe, the school runs structured 7-week beginner courses that teach absolute beginners the fundamentals of Cuban Salsa: rhythm and timing, connection, lead/follow basics, core steps, simple turns, and how to move comfortably to Cuban music.

The Sheffield location sits within a network of 22+ venues nationwide. Classes run at four levels: Level 1 (Beginner), Level 2 (Improver), Level 3 (Intermediate), and Level 4 (Advanced). Each 7-week cycle builds progressively, with students moving through timing and basic steps in week one, then adding partner work and combination moves. The school is award-winning and describes itself as operating "almost every night of the week in city centre venues throughout the UK."

Havana Salsa emphasises that no dance experience is required, no partner is needed (classes rotate partners throughout), and students of all ages—from 18 to 65—learn alongside each other. The teaching approach is structured and patient; student testimonials highlight that "every lesson built naturally on what we'd learned previously" and that "there was a clear structure, a clear syllabus and a clear progression."

Beyond classes, the school hosts regular monthly social parties across UK venues where students practise what they've learned. It also organises the New Year Latin Festival 2026, billed as "the UK's biggest New Year Latin festival," running 31 Dec 2026–2 Jan 2027 in Birmingham, welcoming 500+ dancers for three days of Cuban and Latin workshops, classes, live music, and social dancing. Additional services include private and group tuition, corporate workshops, wedding dance choreography, and children's classes in schools.

Studio history

Havana Salsa was established in the UK over 15 years ago to introduce the wonderful dance of Cuban Salsa, Cuban culture, food, music and the Spanish language. Cuban Salsa derives from the earlier dance form 'Son' and other popular social dances including mambo and cha cha cha, developing into a very relaxed, passionate and expressive style where personality shines as much as dance steps. The style has been danced since the 1950s, all starting in Havana, the capital city of Cuba.
