About this studio

I Heartbeat Dance, LLC was founded in 2017 in Omaha with a mission to bring HBCU majorette dance culture to Nebraska. The studio was created by Shanketta Newsom, a multi-talented artist and dancer whose background includes serving as captain of the Prancing J-Settes at Jackson State University, performing at NFL games and Battle of the Bands events, and leading dance camps. Newsom views dance as ministry rather than business, and her vision is for every student to leave feeling inspired, encouraged, confident, and knowing they are loved, valued, beautiful, and bold.

The studio offers majorette, pom, ballet, and tumbling classes for ages 3 and older, plus a competitive dance team (ages 6+, audition-only), a majorette dance fitness class called Sette It Off, and a heels class called Alter Ego. Majorette classes for ages 3–6 run 45 minutes once per week for $50 per month or $135 per quarter. Ages 7–18 majorette classes run 60 minutes once per week for $60 per month or $165 per quarter. Taking multiple classes earns 50% off each additional class. Ballet and tumbling classes meet once weekly; competition team members pay an additional $40 monthly and must complete both majorette and ballet classes.

Schedule highlights include majorette ages 3–6 on Saturday mornings (11:30 am–12:15 pm), ages 7–11 on Thursday evenings (6:30–7:30 pm), and ages 12–18 on Monday evenings (6:30–7:30 pm). Ballet runs Wednesday evenings for ages 7–11 (6–7 pm) and ages 12–18 (7–8:15 pm). Tumbling classes are held Saturday mornings (10:15–11:15 am) and require placement evaluation. A one-time registration fee of $25 per season applies.

Beyond classes, the studio hosts an annual recital to showcase student work and community, organises competition team auditions (typically in August), and runs majorette dance camps. The studio also offers private lessons, virtual choreography, workshops and clinics, liturgical and praise dance instruction, and special event rentals. The competition team is described as one of the top teams in the nation. Enrollment opens twice yearly, with the studio operating on a closed registration model once capacity is reached.
