About this studio
Jazz Factory teaches swing, blues, lindy hop, balboa and solo charleston in Helsinki's Suvilahti neighbourhood. The studio is run by Laura Halttunen, a dancer, choreographer, instructor and performer who also directs the Midnight Follies cabaret ensemble.
Classes cover energetic 1920s solo charleston, authentic jazz, lindy hop, blues dance and balboa. The studio offers group courses, private lessons and bespoke tuition. Beginner sessions are available across all styles — past courses have included Blues Basics, Solo Blues, Blues Improvers, and partnered options like Blues Improvers – Connection and Partnered Blues for Improvers.
The teaching space is a mirrored studio with a laminate floor, piano and coloured spotlights. It's located on the second floor at Suvilahdenkatu 10 in Suvilahti, easily reached by car, bicycle or public transport, with free parking nearby.
Beyond classes, Jazz Factory hosts regular social events. Balboa Fridays run monthly with DJs and sometimes a live band (€5 entrance, cash only). The studio also organises larger themed events at venues like Helsinki Casino's Fennia Salon — the legendary Speakeasy (prohibition-era party), Chicago Swing & Blues Night, and Paris Night have featured live music, cabaret shows by Midnight Follies, and all-night dancing. Dance classes teach charleston and swing to newcomers before these events begin.
Jazz Factory rents the studio for events and offers private sessions. Bachelor and bachelorette parties can be arranged with vintage styling from the 1920s–1940s, combining dance tuition and costume. The studio is part of a wider Helsinki swing and blues community, partnering with dance groups including Blues Dance Helsinki, Comets, Random Swing, Black Pepper Swing and Avec Dance Club.

Laura Halttunen is the principal instructor, dancer, choreographer and director of the Midnight Follies cabaret company. She has led dance classes and taught at major events including the Paris Night at Casino Helsinki (19.00–19.30 charleston class with Nikolas Lloyd) and the Charleston & Swing Night (partner charleston, 19.30 start).
