About this studio
Jeff Allen's Latin and Ballroom Dance Studio occupies 1,800 square feet of open dance floor at 332 Atwood Ave in Cranston, Rhode Island. The studio teaches Salsa, Bachata, Disco Hustle, West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Argentine Tango, Foxtrot, and Waltz, with a special focus on wedding first-dance choreography and an exclusive offering called Date Night.
Jeff Allen himself runs the studio and teaches all private lessons. He turned professional in July 1984 after winning the Gold closed level at the North American Championships. Over his four decades of teaching, he has won more than 30 Top Teacher Awards and maintained a position in the list of the Top 75 teachers in North America. He is a National Examiner with DVIDA and Pro-DVIDA, and holds membership with the North American Dance Teachers Association and the Pan-American Teachers Association. Allen has authored four books: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Ballroom Dancing, Quickstart to Social Dancing, Quickstart to Tango, and Quickstart to Swing. He was also a columnist for Dancing USA magazine beginning in March 2000.
Private lessons are truly private—just you and Jeff. He teaches through the physics of movement rather than by rote footwork, focusing on your body's alignment, center of gravity, and how it moves through space. His students repeatedly report surprise at how quickly they progress and how natural learning feels with his approach. Wedding couples typically need 7–12 hours of preparation to master a confident first dance, and the studio offers specific choreography including moves called "Across the Threshold," "The X Line," and "The Surprise."
The studio operates by appointment only. As of 2025, availability is limited, with slots primarily on Wednesday late afternoons and into the evenings. Jeff has stated he has limited availability left and operates on a first-come, first-serve basis. Private lessons cost approximately 40% less than other studios in the area. The studio also offers Date Night lessons for $95.00, which includes a private lesson in the dance of your choice, a special ending (dip, surprise, etc.), complementary toast and chocolate, and photos taken with your camera or cell phone.
The studio was recently rebranded with new signage and is now called "The Dance Floor," though Jeff Allen remains inside providing the same instruction. It is easily accessible from Route 5 and off all major roads.
