About this studio

La Escuela De Bachata (EDB) is a bachata-focused dance school in Brighton that runs every Monday evening at the Brighthelm Centre on North Rd. The venue operates as both a teaching studio and a social dance space: classes run from 7:30pm to 9:30pm, followed by open social dancing until 11:30pm, so you can either take a class and then stay to dance, or come purely for the social.

The school teaches two bachata styles — Moderna and Sensual — across four levels within each class. This structure means absolute beginners and experienced dancers train in the same room but at their own level. Level 1 focuses on footwork and fundamental techniques for partner dancing. Level 2 builds your repertoire of moves and refines technique. Level 3 challenges intermediate dancers with longer combinations and musical interpretation. Level 4 is for advanced social dancers with strong fundamentals and confident partnering.

Founded by Beth Mayur and Elsa Bish, EDB welcomes absolute beginners and encourages you to speak to a teacher if you're unsure which level suits you, or want to try a higher level. The teaching approach emphasises both technique and musicality across the partner-dance structure bachata requires.

Doors open at 7:15pm to give you time to settle in before class starts. The venue has limited parking on-site from 7:20pm onwards. You can book online to skip the queue, or pay cash or card on the door. Private classes with EDB instructors are available by request.
