About this studio
Lynnwood Ballroom Dance teaches ballroom, Latin, and swing to adults in Lynnwood, near the light rail. The studio offers both group and private lessons across a wide range of styles: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Rumba, Bachata, Swing, Lindy Hop, Two-step, Cha-Cha, Merengue, Salsa, and West Coast Swing. Classes run Monday–Friday 3 pm–9 pm, with Saturday sessions by appointment. Group classes are split into beginner (Bronze Level 1/2) and advanced (Bronze Level 3/4) tracks, with drop-in pricing of $15 cash or Venmo, $20 by card.
The studio is led by Sam Smith, who has taught ballroom since 1992 and won the World Rising Star Smooth Championship in Las Vegas in 2006. He has opened multiple dance schools and trained staff and students to become champions. The teaching team is substantial and accomplished: Sammy brings 3–4 years of teaching experience with strength in American Rhythm and Smooth, having grown up in a ballroom family; Shannon, with over 25 years in the Seattle area, is certified in 26 dances and has judged DanceSport competitions since 2002; Sarosh has competed in prestigious championships across the US and abroad, winning Amateur, Rising Star, and Open Professional Standard titles; Za Thomaier trains under top trainers including Benji Schwimmer and Ry'El Velandia; Reba has 20 years of competitive Latin experience; Madison began her journey with ballet and martial arts before discovering ballroom at Sam's previous studio; and LaMar started dancing in 2021 and specializes in musicality and expressive performance.
Beyond classes, the studio hosts social dances every other Saturday, 7–9 pm, open to all ages and skill levels. No partner is required. Special events include an Anniversary Party (September 20), Halloween Party (October 18), Winter Ball (December 13), and a Sweetheart Ball in February featuring solo Pro-Am routines and group flights. The studio also offers wedding routine choreography and competitive training for those pursuing DanceSport.
First-time students can enter to win a free class. The community is described as passionate, determined, and supportive, catering to social dancers, competitors, and those learning wedding routines.
What to expect
Your first visit
Classes are split into beginner and advanced levels. Beginners learn basics of frame, connection, and Bronze-level patterns with everyone welcome. Advanced classes are for students who have progressed through the program. Group classes run 45 minutes, 6:45–7:30 pm most weekdays, with West Coast Swing lessons and dances on some Fridays. Social dances run every other Saturday and welcome walk-ins.
