About this studio
Mission City Swing is San Francisco's largest weekly West Coast Swing dance community, operating as a nonprofit devoted to bringing high-quality instruction and social dancing to the city. The organization was started in 2014 at The Polish Club in the Mission District, at the time the only West Coast Swing social dance in San Francisco. Since then it has grown significantly and now operates out of two main venues: the Russian Center of San Francisco for Wednesday classes and socials, and The Polish Club of San Francisco for Sunday practice sessions and specialty workshops.
The studio runs progressive, leveled classes in 6-week series on Wednesday evenings at the Russian Center. Fundamentals (8–9pm) is the introductory level for beginner West Coast Swing dancers, covering basic patterns and technique to prepare students for social dancing. Level 2 (7–8pm) aims at dancers with a solid grasp of the basics and covers whip variations, connection refinement, turns, preps, countering, and anchoring. Level 3 (8–9pm) expands dancers' vocabulary with styling, shaping, rhythm variations, and musicality. Level 4 (7–8pm) is for experienced dancers and aims to develop individual potential with diverse concepts and applications. Points+ classes (8–9pm, select Wednesdays) are drop-in only and available to dancers with at least one WSDC point.
New students can join Fundamentals at any point during weeks 1 or 2 of a series without auditioning. Students may audition for Level 2 after one Fundamentals series, or advance without audition after two full series. Level 3 requires completing all Level 2 content; Level 4 and upper-level placement require an audition. Auditions can be submitted as video by email or taken in person.
Beyond classes, Mission City Swing hosts weekly Wednesday dances from 9pm to midnight at the Russian Center, open to all levels. Sunday practice sessions at The Polish Club run from 4–6pm with open dancing for all levels and no partner required; private lessons are also available 1–4pm on Sundays. The organization periodically hosts special workshops and contests sponsored by Boogie by the Bay. Mission City Swing is volunteer-run and emphasizes community and friendship first, aiming to create a space where people of all ages, skill levels, and walks of life feel welcome.
What to expect
Your first visit
Expect a structured class environment with leveled instruction tailored to your experience. Wednesday classes at the Russian Center run from 7pm with socials dancing from 9pm–midnight. New Fundamentals students can drop in for the first or second week of a series, or pre-register to save time. If you're new to MCS and want to join Level 2 or above, you'll need to audition first via video or in person.

Studio history
Mission City Swing was started in 2014 at The Polish Club in the Mission District. At the time, it was the only West Coast Swing social dance in San Francisco, finally offering locals a place to dance without having to cross a bridge. The organization has since outgrown its original home and now operates out of the much larger Russian Center of San Francisco.
