About this studio

Genesis Dancesport Studio has been teaching ballroom and Latin dance to the San Francisco Bay Area since 1994. The studio was established to provide the local community with a social and competitive ballroom dance outlet, and it remains focused on that mission — welcoming students of all ages and all dance levels to express themselves artistically through music and motion in a relaxed and professional atmosphere.

The studio teaches all ten of the International Standard and International Latin competitive ballroom styles: Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Quickstep in Standard; and Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive in Latin. The instructors also teach American Rhythm variants including American Cha Cha, Bolero, American Rumba, Mambo, and Swing. Each instructor brings unique knowledge, professionalism and experience, creating an educational and entertaining environment. Genesis is home to numerous accomplished dancers who hold prestigious titles, and the studio has developed a proven formula of success when it comes to competitive results.

Classes are offered at multiple levels. Kids' Latin groups run on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 pm for beginners, and again at 6:30 pm for intermediate students. Advanced kids' Latin meets on Tuesdays and Fridays at 5:30 pm. Adult Beginner Latin runs Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:30 pm, while the Competitive Latin group trains on Tuesdays and Fridays at 6:30 pm. The studio also offers Body Conditioning on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:30 to 8:00 pm, and Rounds practice on Tuesday and Friday evenings. Private lessons are available by appointment during business hours (Monday–Friday 2–10 pm, Saturday 9 am–6 pm), tailored to your personal needs and pace.

Whether you're interested in wedding dance lessons, discovering a new sport, learning to connect with your partner, developing your dance technique, or improving your social life and well-being, Genesis offers group or private lessons suited to your goals. Students come straight from work or in casual dress, and many have found that learning alongside other private lessons in the studio's ballroom gives them an advantage in real social dance settings. The studio welcomes both couples and solo students — if you arrive without a partner, your instructor will partner you for private lessons, and group classes and practice sessions provide opportunities to meet other students with the same interests.
