About this studio
North Shore Latin Dance was founded and directed by Azalea Ji in 2014. The studio is committed to providing a welcoming atmosphere for dance enthusiasts of all skill levels, sharing the joy of Latin dance through social events and a variety of dance classes.
Classes are taught in Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, and Zouk at multiple locations across Auckland. The schedule includes beginner and improvers courses running in 6-week or 4-week blocks, alongside weekly social dancing. Most classes run for 45 minutes. You'll find classes at Meadowood Community Centre, M-Dance Studio, New Brew Cafe Bar & Restaurant, The Backyard Bar, Sunnynook Community Centre, Henderson RSA, and The Dance Shed in Kumeu.
Beginner courses are genuinely for people with no prior dance experience — partner rotation during class means you don't need to bring someone with you. Improvers courses are available once you've moved past the basics. The studio runs regular social events: Wednesday nights at New Brew Cafe Bar & Restaurant, Friday live Latin Lounge and Salsa Social at The Backyard Bar (live band, free entry), and themed parties throughout the year including Kizomba parties and multi-decade celebrations of Latin nights.
Members describe the teaching as friendly, professional and encouraging, with instructors who correct technique in a supportive way. One member has been attending classes and social dances with NSLD for 10 years. The studio emphasizes community connection, fun, and the chance to meet people and build lasting friendships while staying active.
