About this studio
UCan2 Dance Studio was established in 1993 with the belief that everyone can learn to dance with the right teaching. The studio's name reflects its founding philosophy: You Can Too. Based in Rosedale, the studio occupies a purpose-built facility from 1998, designed by dancers for dancers. The main studio spans 300 square metres with a specially engineered, well-sprung floor and doors opening onto decks on two sides. A smaller studio serves wedding lessons, small group private lessons, and intimate classes.
The studio offers structured 8-week courses for adults in Ballroom & Latin American (Beginner, Improver, and Intermediate levels) and New Vogue. Adult dances taught include Foxtrot, Waltz, Quickstep, Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Rock n Roll, Salsa, Bachata, Argentine Tango, and Merengue. Beginner courses start the first week of each month, so you won't wait long to join. Free Intro Nights are held throughout the year—no booking needed, no obligation, and you'll receive a 10% discount if you sign up on the night.
For children and teenagers, the studio runs Kids Dancesport (ages 6–11) and Tweens and Teens Dancesport (ages 12–17) as 10-week terms. Both groups learn Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Jive, and Fun dances. Medal classes are available for those seeking technical training at Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels, with tests at the end of Term 2 and Term 4. The Training Squad, by invitation only, provides in-depth technical training for competition dancers and advanced medal students.
Since 1998, when UCan2 students first entered the New Zealand National Championships, couples from the studio have won over 100 NZ titles across every 'A' grade category, well over 100 Australian, Australasian and South Pacific titles, and represented New Zealand at world events in Japan, Moscow, Finland, Czech Republic, Germany, Macau, Lithuania, Austria, and Latvia. The studio holds one of the highest levels of medal test entries in New Zealand. Private lessons are available for wedding dances, medal and competition training, and general skill development. The studio also runs regular dance parties and has PRO-AM and AM-AM calendars for competitive dancers.
