About this studio
Sacred Circle Dance Community hosts ecstatic dance events every Sunday at the Tiffany Center in Portland. Ecstatic dance is a freeform, expressive way to move to music — a return to the uninhibited joy of childhood movement, when music simply made you want to wiggle and move. No previous experience is required, just a desire to dance.
The community was founded in 2004 by a group of dancers who had met at Vinn Marti's Body Moves studio in Portland. When that studio closed, they decided to keep dancing together. What started as a dozen dancers in the tiny North Star ballroom grew to 250+ dancers weekly. The community developed its own approach to music, trained dozens of DJs, and built altar spaces in their ballroom home.
During the pandemic in 2020, Sacred Circle moved dance online via Zoom to keep the community connected. In spring and summer 2021, they brought events outdoors, and by fall 2021 returned to in-person indoor dancing. They are now back at their home venue, the beautiful Tiffany Center at 1410 SW Morrison St.
The community has grown into an extended online network of thousands of dancers, both in the Portland area and beyond. Each Sunday features a fresh dance set by one of their resident DJs, creating a welcoming space for both newcomers and regular dancers to express themselves.
What to expect
Your first visit
You'll join an ecstatic dance event on Sunday with live music from a resident DJ. Wear comfortable clothing and dance shoes, arrive with an open mind, and move however feels natural — there's no right way to dance, and no previous experience is needed.

Studio history
Sacred Circle Dance Community was started in 2004 by dancers who had met at Vinn Marti's Body Moves studio in Portland.
