About this studio

Salsa Project Utrecht teaches salsa in the LA style, the most popular style at salsa socials across the city. The studio is run by Emrah and Glenda, instructors with 20 years of experience. Classes range from Absolute Beginners through Advanced, with focus on technique, clear instruction, and personal attention.

Classes run at Theaterhuis De Berenkuil on Biltstraat 166. Each lesson lasts 75 minutes with a 15-minute break between groups for questions and partner changes. Groups average about 10 dance couples, with a maximum of around 15 couples. The studio maintains equal numbers of men and women to ensure everyone has a partner, and deliberately keeps groups small for better instruction.

You can start as an absolute beginner with no dance experience or prior partner. New beginners join a 7-week introductory package (€95) before moving to the regular beginner's course. Beginners courses start in January and September. If you've danced salsa before elsewhere, you can join an existing group at the level that suits you after a free trial lesson. During lessons, partners rotate so you learn to lead and follow with different people, even if you come with a regular partner.

The studio offers free trial lessons for both absolute beginners and those with prior salsa experience. The average age of students is between 25 and 30. You don't need a partner to join—most people sign up alone—though spaces for women without a partner are limited to keep the gender balance. Lessons operate on a continuous rolling subscription model: you sign up once and stay enrolled for all classes at your level.

The location is accessible by public transport; bus lines 28, 50, 73, 74, and 77 stop at Oorsprongpark nearby. If driving, parking is available on Hoefijzerstraat at the rear of the building.
