About this studio

Storybook Ballet has been teaching children's ballet in Madison since 2000. Founded by Meredith Mast, a former professional ballerina with the Houston Ballet, the school combines classical ballet instruction with the magic of fairytales and famous ballet stories. The curriculum draws on almost twenty years of teaching children and over forty years of studying the art form.

The studio focuses exclusively on ages 3 to 10, divided into five levels of ballet classes. For the youngest dancers (ages 3–6), classic fairytales and literature inspire imagination while children explore coordination, balance, and creative expression through age-appropriate technique. As students grow into the senior primary levels (ages 6–10), the narrative naturally gives way to focused study of classical ballet technique, building discipline, grace, and physical confidence.

Every single class is led by two professional instructors—a standard the school calls essential for individualized attention and hands-on corrections. The studio provides extensive wardrobe of beautiful, handmade costumes for classroom storytelling at no extra cost, allowing children to fully inhabit the lead character of a storybook. Classes are non-competitive and non-recital focused; studio time is dedicated entirely to technical development and the joy of learning.

The school is located in the lower level of Hilldale Mall (726 N Midvale Boulevard, Suite B20). Boys are always welcome and have characters and costumes to match their interests. New families can observe classes through observation windows before enrolling. The studio offers summer camps including Fairy Ballerina, Princess Drama, Rainbow Unicorn Mini Camp, and Magical Manners Camp. Registration is online, and payment plans are available for Fall and Winter–Spring sessions. The school accepts credit cards and cheques.
