Swingwerkstatt in der Tanzdose

Swingwerkstatt is a Hamburg-based swing dance studio run by passionate Lindy Hop dancers who want to share the dance, its culture and history with others. They teach weekly classes at three levels — beginner, intermediate and advanced — and also run regular parties and social dance events across the city.

Their teaching program includes beginner workshops (which require no prior experience and can be attended solo, without a partner), and ongoing weekly classes for all abilities. The studio emphasizes learning Lindy Hop comprehensively and quickly in their workshop format.

Beyond classes, Swingwerkstatt is deeply embedded in Hamburg's swing scene. They organize regular parties with different vibes: some feature live bands from Hamburg and beyond, others are led by local swing DJs. They highlight Dockside Swing as their signature event — held on the second Saturday of each month at Nochtspeicher, it always includes live music and runs with a beginner Lindy Hop taster class at 20:00, followed by open dance floor. Sunday Stomp, held monthly on the first Sunday at Haus 73, is a daytime social dance café that also starts with a beginner taster at 16:00. They also organize special events like the Sommerfest in the Helenenviertel.

The community around Swingwerkstatt is described as communicative and welcoming to newcomers. They publish a weekly Swing Hamburg newsletter with current party dates and event listings. The studio works creatively with local musicians and DJs to build the Hamburg swing dance scene.

Beginner workshops teach Lindy Hop in a compact, focused format with no prior experience needed. You can sign up solo. If attending a party like Sunday Stomp or Dockside Swing, expect a free taster class followed by open social dancing with either DJs or live bands.

Beginner workshops need no prior experience and welcome solo sign-ups; parties include free taster classes to get you started.
