About this studio
Tangoverkstan – Roller i Rörelse teaches Argentine tango in Stockholm with a distinctive approach centred on queer pedagogy, gender awareness and role flexibility. The studio was founded in 2006 by Charlotte Rivero, a gender educator and registered nurse who pioneered queer tango in Sweden, starting same-sex classes with role and partner exchange as early as 2000. Charlotte presented this pedagogical framework at the international dance research conference NOFOD in Stockholm in 2006.
Classes focus on presence, mindfulness, body awareness, tango technique, musicality, communication and tango repertoire. You train in understanding the full dance and both roles regardless of your gender. The studio emphasises norm-creativity over traditional gender norms, positioning tango as freedom, inspiration and dance joy. Courses run from beginner to advanced level.
Tangoverkstan offers private lessons for individuals, couples and groups by arrangement. The studio also teaches body awareness and pilates courses. Beyond regular classes, Charlotte delivers workshops and lectures on queer theory and tango, gender awareness and tango, and equality and tango at institutions across Sweden and internationally, including guest teaching at Teaterhögskolan, Danshögskolan, Gymnastik och idrottshögskolan, and Sveriges kommuner och landsting.
Currently the studio has paused open group classes but welcomes private lesson bookings by arrangement. The teaching philosophy rests on gender-critical, problem-based learning and feminist theory, developed and established in Sweden by Charlotte Rivero.
