About this studio
Flamenco Center has been a vital force in Scandinavia for over three decades, presenting innovative flamenco dance performances and providing classes for everyone. The studio is built on a philosophy that dance and music bring confidence, coordination, and joy, regardless of your background, gender, or age.
Gabriela Gutarra founded and leads the centre. A dancer and choreographer born in Peru and raised in Europe, she has worked as a freelance dance artist for over forty years, with Spanish dance at the heart of her practice. Her artistic journey began with rigorous studies in both Spain and Sweden, and has blossomed into over 40 touring productions. She has collaborated with international artists from diverse cultures and genres, performing on some of the Nordic region's most renowned stages. She is a Stockholm-based artist with three decades of experience in dance, performance, and education.
Classes are structured by level. Flamenco Prueba is a try-out class for beginners. Flamenco Uno requires no prior experience. Flamenco Dos is elementary flamenco for beginners at a faster tempo. Flamenco Tres is tailored for students with prior flamenco experience. Flamenco Cuatro is for dancers with 2–3 years of flamenco experience. Flamenco Cinco is designed for students with 4–5 years of experience. Beyond regular classes, the studio offers special courses in body percussion, sevillanas, and castanet lessons. Workshops in Flamenco Repertorio help advanced students perform on stage, make their own choreography, and refine their style. Private lessons are also available.
The studio runs spring and fall/winter semesters, with special summer classes. Drop-in options are available for certain classes. Student performances are held at the end of each term or year, giving students opportunities to showcase their progress. The studio also runs special projects, including flamenco and body percussion workshops in schools and flamenco classes in care homes.
The studio welcomes all ages and abilities, including men and women. If you have an injury or physical limitation, the instructors can provide adapted exercises. Children and pets are welcome to attend if they do not disturb the class. The studio is inclusive and designed for everyone who wants to experience flamenco.
