About this studio

The Fame Lee Dance is a beginner-focused dance studio at 178 Beverley Street in downtown Toronto, founded by Kareem, a professional dancer and choreographer with over 10 years of teaching experience. Kareem trained in Chennai, India, under top choreographers and worked with renowned actors and the legendary Prabhu Deva. In 2011, his team placed as runner-up at Hip Hop International India — one of the world's most prestigious street dance competitions. After moving to Toronto, Kareem founded The Fame Lee Dance with a mission to make dance accessible to everyone, regardless of age, skill level, or background.

The studio currently offers Bollywood dance classes every Sunday from 3 PM to 5 PM. Each 2-hour session includes a guided warm-up with stretching designed for all fitness levels, instruction in 2 complete Bollywood choreographies (one technique-focused, one emphasising classic 90s Bollywood drama and expression), and a freestyle session in the final 10 minutes. Hip Hop classes are coming soon, taught by Kareem with the same beginner-friendly step-by-step approach. The studio also offers Dance Theory — a 30-minute 1-on-1 Zoom session with Kareem covering rhythm, counting beats, body movement, and musicality.

Kareem's teaching style is built around breaking down every move into manageable steps, translating song lyrics so students understand what they're dancing to, and creating a zero-judgment environment where everyone feels comfortable from the first class. He particularly welcomes people who are shy or nervous about dancing in front of others. The studio attracts a diverse, multicultural community — students from the University of Toronto, professionals, artists, and families from surrounding neighbourhoods. Classes are designed so that you can walk in as a complete beginner and walk out dancing.

The studio is located 2 minutes from Kensington Market, 5 minutes from Chinatown, and 7 minutes from the University of Toronto's St. George campus. It is easily accessible by TTC via Spadina, College, or Queen's Park stations, or by the 505 Dundas or 510 Spadina streetcars. The space sits on Beverley Street in a dedicated bike lane, with street parking available nearby and the Green P lot at Village by the Grange a 3-minute walk away.

The Fame Lee Dance holds a 5.0 Google rating based on 40 reviews. Students consistently praise Kareem's ability to make dance fun and accessible, the safe and structured learning environment, the positive energy in the room, and the genuine community that forms through the classes.
