The Wooden Stage

The Wooden Stage is a performance arts institute in Vile Parle, Mumbai, co-founded by the Jasani sisters. Shruti Jasani leads the faculty and teaches aerial art to over 400 students. The studio pioneered the start of aerial art in India and positions itself as a space free of competition where students can discover their true passion through movement on vertical apparatus.

Shruti studied contemporary dance and ballet at New York University and has been affiliated with Trinity College of London since 2005, where she specialised in the Performance Arts syllabus and took professional level exams. She has trained Kingfisher Supermodels and to-be brides on Band Baja Bride (NDTV), choreographed television ads for brands including Cleartrip, Discovery Channel, L'Oreal, Parachute hair oil and Alto automobile, and worked on Bollywood films including Rock On 2 and Rocket Gang. Shruti has also been invited to showcase her skills at TedX, and has spoken and performed at Tiecon.

Vaibhav More is a senior faculty member who specializes in aerial hoops and silk and has trained for contemporary, hip hop, trapeze, rope, and handstands. He teaches kids aerial art and students report feeling security around him while learning on silk. Vidhi Jasani, the other co-founder, is an engineer and marketing maven who manages studio affairs and handles the schedules of over 400 students.

The studio offers aerial art classes for both children (ages 5–7 and 8–16) and adults (16 years and above). Kids' classes begin with a Kalaripayattu warm-up (a Kerala martial art) followed by integrated strength and flexibility exercises, then aerial silk training covering climbs, inverts, locks, and slides as per skill level. Sessions end with a tiny dance routine. Adult classes focus on building strong foundations in aerial silk, with students working in small groups at their own pace. Classes mix aerial fitness and silks, with major emphasis on strength and flexibility. Small class sizes ensure each student gets individual attention.

Equipment safety, quality control and instructor background checks are in place. The studio provides top quality equipment and expert trainers. Students report long-term benefits including superhuman core strength, deep stretches, improved balance, enhanced posture and ergonomics at work, improved confidence levels, better sleep, and general sense of wellbeing.
