About this studio

Viva Collective is a multi-use dance studio and event venue at 901-B N. Tryon St in Charlotte's Uptown district. It was born from a partnership between Rumbao and NC Brazilian Arts Project—two collectives that have spent 11 years offering Latin X and African Diasporic movement classes, events, and performances across Charlotte and the Southeast. The studio exists because its founders noticed that dedicated spaces for these communities to practice and create had shrunk, so they built Viva Collective to serve both their own students and other movement creatives seeking high-quality studio space.

The space itself has high ceilings, bright natural light, and an open layout that works equally well for classes and events. It can accommodate up to 150 guests and features multiple studio zones, a basic sound system, and flexible floorplan options. The industrial-chic vibe and warm atmosphere make it welcoming whether you're taking a beginner class or hosting a full-scale celebration.

Classes are offered in capoeira, samba, salsa, bachata, zouk, chachachá, merengue, tango, pilates, and functional training. Registration happens separately through each collective: Rumbao runs their own schedule and registration, while NC Brazilian Arts manages theirs. Both welcome absolute beginners—the studio explicitly notes "we have plenty of beginner friendly classes for you."

The venue is available to rent for classes, events, rehearsals, workshops, pop-ups, birthday parties, networking events, and creative productions. All rentals include on-site staff support if needed, tables, chairs, and access to the sound system. Parking is available by the gravel lot or in front of the building, with easy access to major roads. The 9th St light rail station is an 11-minute walk away, and bus line 11 serves the location.
