About this studio
West Coast Jitterbugs is a swing dance association based in Guldheden, Gothenburg, teaching and hosting social dancing since 1983. The club offers classes and social dancing in lindy hop, balboa, blues, solojazz, stepp and boogie woogie — all rooted in the swing era from the 1920s through 1950s.
You can take dance courses at any level, from complete beginner to experienced dancer. The club runs regular social dance nights on Mondays at 20:00, and Swing After Work sessions on Fridays. During summer months, the club moves outdoors to Dr. Håléns Park for Lindy in the Park, running Monday evenings from 18:00 to 21:00 (or indoors at Forum if weather requires). Both members and non-members are welcome at most sessions, though regular participation requires membership.
The club emphasises the cultural and historical roots of swing dance in African-American art forms, particularly the significance of venues like the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem as spaces where people of different backgrounds could meet on the dance floor. The club's Code of Conduct reflects this commitment to safety and inclusion.
West Coast Jitterbugs holds an Open House during week 35 each year, offering free trial classes across all six dance styles. The venue is located at Doktor Fries Torg 7 in Guldheden. Membership runs from 1 July to 30 June and provides access to courses, social dances, open training sessions and other club activities throughout the year.
