About this studio
Moonlit Moves is a West Coast Swing community based in San Francisco that hosts biweekly (or sometimes more frequent) Friday night classes and social dancing at The Polish Club. The space is welcoming, safe, inclusive, and designed to kick off your weekend dancing.
West Coast Swing is a modern form of partnered swing dancing derived from Lindy Hop, danced to contemporary music including pop, hip hop, R&B, jazz, blues, lyrical, and soul. The dance is known for its smooth and elastic aesthetic and leaves plenty of room for individual expression and communication. California is the home of West Coast Swing.
A typical Moonlit Moves night runs from 8:15pm to midnight. Drop-in beginner and open-levels classes run from 8:15–9pm, followed by a social dance party from 9pm–midnight. The beginner class takes place in the front room and is taught by some of the San Francisco Bay Area's best teachers—no partner and no experience necessary. The open-levels class happens in the main room and is for those comfortable with the basics; it features local and international instructors teaching new techniques and moves for the social floor. On select Fridays, add-on classes run from 7–8pm, covering topics like choreography, line dance, hairography, and switch dancing, open to all levels.
Moonlit Moves also runs a community bakeoff where attendees bring homemade goods—banana bread, cookies, and muffins in the past—and the community votes on their favourite. The bakeoff is a friendly competition and a crowd favourite. If you're interested in baking, you can message them on Instagram or Facebook or email to participate.
Instructors include Riley Crozier, who has taught at Moonlit Moves events. The community brings in some of the best West Coast Swing instructors in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
