Biography
Giampiero Giannico is an Italian-born Professional Standard ballroom competitor who became a fixture of the international circuit before transitioning into teaching, adjudication, and competition organization. His earliest documented appearance comes from October 1996, when he and Daniela Serio represented Italy at the International Ballroom Dancing Championships at the Royal Albert Hall. Through the 1990s and 2000s, Giannico established himself as a leading Professional Standard finalist, partnering with Ieva Pauksena and Anastasia Muravyeva and competing at major championships including the British Open in Blackpool, the UK Open, the United States Open, and the World Championships.
After retiring from his partnership with Muravyeva, Giannico returned to competition in early 2010 with a new partner, Anna Mikhed. The pair made an immediate impact: they won Washington's Capitol DanceSport Championships and placed fifth in the Professional Standard event at the British Open. A results archive records them third at the 2010 United States Dance Championships, and they reached the World Professional Standard final that year, placing fourth.
Following the 2010 season, Giannico shifted his focus toward teaching, adjudication, performance, and event production. He became instrumental in founding New York's Empire Dance Championship in 2013 and continues in an organizing capacity. In 2022, the Millennium Dancesport Championships honored both Giannico and Mikhed with induction into the Professional Hall of Fame—a recognition that marked an official retrospective of their competitive partnership. As of 2024, Giannico and Katharina Giannico serve as owners and organizers of the Empire Dance Championship, bringing more than two decades of combined organizing experience to the role.

Legacy & Impact
Giannico's significance rests on his dual career as both a world-level competitor and a steward of professional ballroom institutions. His record—from Italian representation through U.S. championship competition to the founding and leadership of a major New York event—bridges elite performance and the structural work that keeps professional dance visible and competitive. For dancers navigating the Professional Standard circuit, Giannico represents both a standard of partnership and consistency, and the kind of sustained commitment to the ballroom community that extends beyond individual titles.
