Dancing in Decatur

Also known as Robert and Sophia

A bronze couple mid-Charleston in the courtyard at Roaring Social on West Ponce de Leon Avenue — she in a fringed flapper dress and ropes of pearls, he in a boater, their joined hands the only thing holding the two of them upright. The plaque reads "Dancing in Decatur — Robert and Sophia Evans, 1920", naming the couple and the era the piece portrays rather than the year it was cast. The sculptor is not named on the plaque. Sculpted by Martin Dawe of Cherrylion Studios, Atlanta.

Do you recognise the dance?

We have not filed this one under a style. Plenty of sculptures show dancing without showing a particular dance — but if you can see a form here, telling us connects this sculpture to everything else we hold on it.
