Level Up Studios, established in 2016, is Pittsburgh's only hip hop and street dance exclusive dance and creative arts studio. Located at 4836 Penn Avenue in the heart of Penn Ave's commercial and arts district, it serves children, youth, teens, and adults looking to build confidence, creativity, and community through movement and culture.
The studio offers a wide range of classes across multiple styles. Kids programmes include Beginners Hip-Hop (ages 5–12), Popping & Animation (ages 5+), and Break Dance (ages 5+). Adult offerings span Basic Hip Hop, Intermediate Hip Hop, Jazz Funk, Bhangra, Bollywood, Waacking, and Krump. The studio also teaches K Pop Choreography and runs fitness classes alongside audio recording services.
Beyond regular classes, Level Up hosts cyphers, dance battles, workshops with national and industry-renowned dancers and choreographers, monthly art exhibitions, music showcases, and events celebrating local visual artists, musicians, and dancers. The studio runs summer camps and after-school programming, and since August 2019 has partnered with organisations including Assemble, Phase 4 Learning Center, Best Buy Teen Tech Center, and Demonstration to hold the annual Level Up Block Party, featuring live music, painting, dance performances, vending, and a back-to-school drive.
The 1,200 sq ft space serves as both a teaching studio and event venue available for rental—ideal for birthday parties, wedding rehearsals, baby showers, and live showcases. Level Up is committed to accessibility, offering free and reduced-price programmes, scholarships for youth learners in low-income communities, and partnerships with youth-serving organisations. The studio's vision is to cultivate a dynamic space nurturing holistic growth and intergenerational community through hip hop and street dance.
