About this studio
Alamo City Swing Revival (ACSR) is a non-profit 501(c)(7) swing dance organisation founded in March 2016. The group was born when San Antonio swing dancers came together to revive interest in swing dancing and support for local swing bands. Their first dance on St. Patrick's Day 2016 drew over 230 dancers—a record-breaking event that set the tone for what followed. Since then, ACSR has survived multiple relocations and the pandemic closure, growing into a thriving local community.
ACsr hosts weekly social dances, lessons with San Antonio's best lindy hop instructors, and live band nights. The organisation's philosophy is simple: everyone is welcome, whether you're a total beginner who's never heard of a swing-out or a seasoned lindy hopper who lives for the jam circle. You don't need to bring a partner—it's tradition to rotate partners from song to song, which helps everyone improve and means you'll connect with dancers of all skill levels.
The styles taught span the swing tradition: Lindy Hop, East Coast Swing (Jitterbug), Balboa, Charleston, and Collegiate Shag. The organisation educates dancers about the history of swing music, which was born in the United States during the late 1920s and early 1930s, swept the nation by the mid-1930s, and was ruled by Big Band leaders like Benny Goodman, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington from 1935 to 1946.
ACsr operates as a membership-based organisation where funds go directly back to dancers to provide bands, lessons, entertainment, snacks and drinks. Membership costs $50 per year and includes free admission the night you sign up, discounted admission to all ACSR events and dances, and the ability to run for the board, volunteer, and vote in elections. Weekly event reminders are sent by email or text message.
The organisation's goals include uniting the swing dance community, providing traditional swing dance lessons at all levels, educating people about swing dance history, playing a wide variety of swing music, and promoting good health through dance. Since opening, the ACSR swing dance family continues to grow with a positive impact on the local community.

Studio history
Alamo City Swing Revival was founded in March 2016 when a group of San Antonio dancers came together to discuss their love of swing dancing and revive local interest in swing. The group realised the swing dance community was scattered across different event locations and struggling to gather. They started the non-profit 501(c)(7) after recognising how profoundly swing dance had changed their lives—bringing new friendships, fun, appreciation of American music and history, exercise, stress relief, and renewed joy. Their first dance on St. Patrick's Day 2016 drew over 230 dancers. ACSR has since survived multiple relocations and the pandemic closure.
