About this studio
The Albuquerque Square Dance Center is a dedicated dance facility built by square dancers for square dancers, hosting dancing almost every night of the week. You can learn and dance square dance, round dance, ballroom, country and western, and contra dance — all on a floating hardwood floor that the centre claims is the best in the USA.
The venue operates two separate dance halls that can be combined into one large space. The East Hall has 2,204 square feet of floor space and holds 121 people; the West Hall has 3,364 square feet and holds 178 people. When combined, the two halls create 5,568 square feet of dance space with a capacity of 299. Both halls feature great acoustics, refrigerated air conditioning, and full kitchens with refrigerators, freezers, microwaves and working ovens.
The schedule is busy and varied. Regular recurring dances include McCallum Monday Dance (ballroom, Mondays 6–8 pm in the Large Hall), Wilde Bunch Beginner classes (Sundays 6:30–9:15 pm in the Small Hall), Wilde Bunch A2 and C1 (Tuesdays 6:30–9:15 pm), ABQ Sun Dancers (Tuesdays 7–9 pm), Duke City Square Dance Club (Thursdays and Fridays 7–9 pm), AWK Advanced Square Dance A2 (Thursdays 7–9:45 pm), and The Outlaws (Fridays 6:30–10:30 pm on the 1st and 3rd). The Tango Club of Albuquerque also meets here on Saturdays at 2:30–4:30 pm.
The centre hosts multiple festivals and special events throughout the year, including the Wilde Bunch Scholarship Dance, ABQ Sun Dancer Anniversary and Toys for Tot's Combined, Hot August Nights, Student & Angel Hoedown, Wilde Bunch Chase the Chile, New Mexico State Round Dance Festival, Scootin' into Autumn, and Cornucopia Jamboree. USA Dance Chapter-5047 also hosts events here.
The facility is available to rent for dance functions of all kinds. It is alcohol-free and smoke-free, with ample parking. There is also a kitchen in each hall available for renters. Inquiries about renting can be made by email or phone.
